galvanic cathodic protection
When two dissimilar metals are connected in concrete, the metal with the highest corrosion potential (zinc) will corrode before the nobler metal (reinforcing steel). Galvashield® anodes are embedded/drilled into concrete repairs, or in other places where new and existing concrete come into contact, to limit corrosion in the adjacent parent concrete.
Galvashield® XP - embedded anode
Galvashield® XP is the original embedded galvanic anode for concrete and has been used for over 25 years to reduce corrosion of light anodes when repairing reinforced concrete structures.
The alkali-activated (type 1A) anodes are designed for optimal performance and easy installation. They consist of high-purity zinc cast around a steel binding wire with an improved cement-based mortar with an internal pH of 14 or higher, ensuring that the zinc remains active throughout the lifespan of the anode. After installation, the zinc anode corrodes to provide galvanic protection to adjacent reinforcing steel.

Galvashield® CC drilled anode
The cylindrical anode can be quickly and easily installed in drilled holes in concrete that is mechanically intact but shows signs of corrosion. After installation, the zinc anode preferentially corrodes to protect the adjacent reinforcement steel. Please refer to the technical data sheet for the recommended distances.
Galvashield® Fusion® T2 hybrid anode
Galvashield® Fusion® T2 provides two-stage protection in a single anode unit that is embedded in a drilled hole.
Phase 1 - an intense self-generated current pulse contacts the reinforcement steel and passivates the corrosion of the rebar.
Phase 2 - after the impressed current phase, the galvanic anodes protect the structure from future corrosion damage.

Galvashield® SM-DAS - buildable anode
These anode units are distributed throughout reinforced concrete and masonry structures to provide overall corrosion protection, or can be used to protect specific areas with a high corrosion risk, such as chloride-containing concrete around joints and areas with a high corrosion potential.
Galvashield SM-DAS anodes contain alkali-activated mortar that is cast around a core of very pure zinc. Once installed, the zinc anode preferentially corrodes compared to the surrounding reinforcement steel, thereby preventing galvanic corrosion of the embedded reinforcement steel. The amount of zinc, the length of the anode, the electrical components, and the installation procedures are tailored to the specific project requirements.
