cathodic protection with impressed current

Instead of a less noble metal, aninert anodeis placed on or in the concrete and voltage (and current) is applied. It is an electrochemical method to activelystop corrosion of reinforcement in concrete structuresby making the steelcathodic with an externally applied direct current. kathodisch te maken.

The reinforcement in the concrete is electrically connected and connected to thenegative terminalof a rectifier.

Inert anodes(usually titanium with MMO coating) are applied:

  • on the concrete surface,

  • in grooves/drilled holes in the concrete,

  • or as a conductive anode layer.

These anodes are connected to thepositive terminalof the rectifier.

The concrete acts as anelectrolyte.

The impressed direct current flows from the anode through the concrete to the reinforcement.

This lowers the electrical potential of the steel andsuppresses anodic corrosion reactions.

Ebonex®

Ebonex® is a discrete ICCP anode (Impressed Current Cathodic Protection), specifically designed to protect reinforced concrete and steel structures from corrosion. The anode utilises an innovative ceramic/titanium composite, combined with an integrated gas venting system. The anode system uses Ebofix mortar, a high-density acid-buffering mortar that ensures long-lasting performance. Discrete Ebonex® anodes are available in various sizes for excellent design flexibility. Discrete Ebonex® anodes can exceed the required potential shift of 100 mV for effective cathodic protection, as defined in the NACE standard (National Association of Corrosion Engineers) RP0290 and the European standard EN12696 - Cathodic protection of steel in concrete.

Titanium mesh anode

Titanium expanded mesh MMO activated, used as an insoluble

anode in cathodic protection installations with impressed current for large concrete surfaces.

The mesh is available with different mesh openings, allowing for a mesh with varying current output.

zebra anode

ZEBRA Anode is a patented, 2-component, mineral conductive paint specifically designed for use as a durable anode in the ZEBRA system for cathodic protection (CP) of steel in concrete. ZEBRA Anode is part of the ZEBRA system.

The ZEBRA anode, sealed with AHEAD Multiprimer or AHEAD Multiprimer Floor, is designed for use on car parks, tops of decks, slabs, columns, balconies, beams, and undersides. Different application areas require different pre- and post-treatments to be a durable cathodic protection system.

duranode4

The durAnode4 is the result of ongoing development in the field of cathodic protection and has a number of unique features.

All exposed parts are made of titanium to ensure high durability and can be completely concealed. This means it can also be used in historic buildings to protect steel beams and in places where the weight and dimensions of structures are important, such as car parks or other types of bridges. It can also be used for hotspot protection, which can reduce costs without compromising the level of protection. It consists of a titanium anode cap and an active anode made of MMO coated titanium.
